Recently, the UK-based solar developer Solarcentury will install a 500kW ground-mounted solar system at the Moab International Airport in Mombasa, Kenya, which will generate 820,000 kWh of electricity per year.
The system will be interconnected with the airport terminal grid and prioritized to consume solar energy through the grid.
Solarcentury will also install airport gate electrification equipment, including mobile electric preconditioned air (PCA) units and electric 400 Hz ground power unit (GPU) converters and large battery memory to provide uninterruptible power to PCA and GPUs.
The project marks Kenya's first airport to install solar energy systems.
