SC Johnson plans to recycle 100% of plastic packaging by 2025

Johnson recently announced a series of commitments by increasing the recycled plastic content in packaging to further reduce its plastic footprint, supported by concentrated refills plastic bottles refilled, and strive to make Ziploc® bags of recyclable at the roadside.

These specific commitments include:

• By 2025, 100% of SC Johnson plastic packaging recyclable, reusable or compostable. Currently, 90% of plastic packaging Johnson designed as recyclable, reusable or compostable.

• By 2025, the amount of post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic in SC Johnson packaging is now three times higher. SC Johnson will increase the amount of PCR plastic used in its packaging from 10 million kg to more than 30 million kg by 2025. As part of it, SC Johnson will increase the proportion of PCR plastics used in North American and European bottles from 20% today to 40% in 2025.

• Expanding the number of concentrated supplement options for SC Johnson products by 2025. Since 2011, SC Johnson has been manufacturing concentrated liquid refills for home cleaning press spray bottles in the US. Each press spray bottle is designed for spraying 10,000 sprays, so it can be refilled and reused an average of 13 times. The company will continue to expand its various concentrated refill options, enabling consumers to reuse packaging and reduce waste.

• Continue to remove excess plastic as much as possible. SC Johnson has been working on designing unnecessary packaging from its products. From 2011 to 2017, the company has removed 9.5 million kilograms of material from its packaging.

• Plastic film roadside recycling champion. SC Johnson will continue to work to make roadside recycling of flexible plastic film a reality in the United States.

• Collaborate with industry and other organizations to support a cyclical plastics economic model. SC Johnson will work with industry and NGOs to further support the recycling plastics economy and keep plastics away from landfills and the environment.
