' Therefore, our goal is to apply our products to applications that are particularly important for short-cycle economic production, ' Fuchte explains. First TPU debut based on carbon dioxide technol

The polyol used in Covestro's new TPU helps reduce the carbon footprint of the material. Covestro launches its first carbon-based TPU.

The company first developed carbon Polyether carbonate polyol based on carbon dioxide technology, which is currently being marketed.

With the recent launch of the Desmopan 37385A series, the company offers the new series of TPU's first representative products, the new series of TPU products based on CO2 technology, and contains new polyether carbonate polyol. Compared with the traditional TPU materials, the new TPU products have a lower carbon footprint, helping to shorten the carbon cycle. They also protect fossil resources, unlike many bio-based materials, which do not compete with food production. "Through new TPU, our customers can reduce the carbon footprint of their products and play a pioneering role in sustainability compared to their competitors," said Georg Fuchte, a TPU expert at Covestro. This is especially true for companies in the consumer goods industry, which typically produce products with shorter life spans.

' The Desmopan 37385A has a 85A durometer hardness and is reported to have mechanical properties at least similar to the hardness of conventional TPU grades, and in some cases performance is better than conventional TPU with similar hardness. For example, its tensile strength is 36 MPa (5221.3671 psi) and the elongation at break reaches 660. Although it is designed for extrusion, it is also suitable for injection molding.

According to Fuchte, the range of applications covers the typical end-use of traditional TPU, with a comparable hardness, ranging from soles and uppers, to sportswear, handles, knobs and sensitive electronic products. Covestro plans to expand the new TPU product range with varying hardness variants. For example, shore hardness of 95A products, in the process of melting and curing quickly, has been well developed.

' Therefore, our goal is to apply our products to applications that are particularly important for short-cycle economic production, ' Fuchte explains. First TPU debut based on carbon dioxide technology
