Microsoft showcases an external gamepad for mobile phones/tablets

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced the Xbox streaming game service Project xCloud, which is scheduled to open beta in 2019.

With xCloud, users can play the original Xbox masterpiece on their mobile phones and tablets, especially the exclusive IP.

At the time, players expressed doubts, how more than 3,000 Xbox One games ensured a good experience on mobile phones with touch screen as the main interaction, and now Microsoft gave some answers.

The Microsoft Research paper presents the officially built mobile gamepad with a detachable design that holds the phone in the middle and supports it.

It is reported that this set of handles was completed based on 3D printing of foam in 2014, but after seeing the success of Nintendo Switch, Microsoft seems to be eager to show it again. The giant said that the practice has proved that the touch screen does not perfectly simulate the interaction of the handle.

In addition, the map shows that the handle can be mounted on a dedicated charging module to replenish energy after the handle is closed. The module seems to be connected using the USB-C port.
