Recently, Enel Group's Brazilian renewable energy subsidiary Enel Green Power announced that it will begin construction of a 475MW photovoltaic project in Piauí, northeastern Brazil.
The PV unit is expected to be operational by 2020 and is currently the largest photovoltaic installation in South America. The Enel Group will invest approximately US$390 million in project development.
The head of Enel Green Power said: 'The construction of this photovoltaic power station has strengthened our leadership in renewable energy in Brazil and reaffirmed our emphasis on solar energy development in the country. SãoGonçalo will further promote the country's energy structure. Diversity and resilience, supporting a benign economic cycle through long-term supply of sustainable energy.'
When the project is completed, it can generate more than 1,200 GWh of electricity per year while reducing the emission of more than 600,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Among the 475MW generating capacity, the 388MW power plant was awarded the Brazilian Enel Group A-4 public tender in December 2017 and was supported by a 20-year power supply contract from several power distribution companies. The remaining 87MW is expected to be a free market. Provide energy.
