Bond-laminates, a Lanxess subsidiary in Brilon, Germany, has expanded its continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites capacity
New Engineering Plastics Complex plant in Krefeld-uerdingen, Germany
Up to 50 new jobs Bond-laminatesgmbh is improving the production capacity of its Tepex brand of continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of the specialty Chemicals company Lanxess (lanxess) and is currently building a fourth production plant in its Brilon plant, about 1500 square meters. Two new production lines are scheduled to start production in 2019. The company has produced about 5000 square meters of innovative composites for the automotive industry, electrical and sports industries. The investment, in the range of millions of euros, will significantly increase production capacity to meet the growing demand for this forward-looking material.
With this capacity expansion, Bond-laminates will create up to 30 new jobs.
New high-performance plastic factory Lanxess's high-performance Materials business unit is also investing in its global production network for high-performance plastics and is further building composite plants at its Krefeld-uerdingen plant, with a total investment of 50 million euros. Starting from the second half of 2019, Lanxess will produce Durethan and Pocan Engineering Plastics, mainly for the automotive, electrical and electronics industries. In addition, warehouses and warehousing facilities will be built. Construction will begin in the fourth quarter of 2018. The investment will create about 20 new jobs at the plant in Krefeld-uerdingen.
The new composite plant will enable lanxess to further expand its operations and increase its production capacity in line with the needs of the next few years.
Lightweight solutions for modern mobile tools Lanxess ' high-performance plastics and composites make it possible to design components that replace metal parts in vehicles, helping to reduce weight and fuel consumption and emissions. These innovative materials are used in vehicle components such as engine applications, door structures, pedals, front ends, seat housings, underbody and cockpit lateral components.
Depending on the component, lightweight construction can reduce weight by up to 50%. The Tepex brand of continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites is increasingly used in a range of applications in the automotive, consumer electronics and sports industries. This high-elasticity material is injection-molded, eliminating the need for additional processing steps, making the Tepex the material of choice for mass production.
For example, in the sports industry, it is used to produce soles, bicycle parts, ski boots, protectors and helmets. Lanxess materials also have many applications in hybrid and pure electric vehicles, some of which have proven their value in mass production. These applications include components for charging systems, carriers, battery holders for battery systems, and sensors and housing components for electric motors.
These materials also have enormous potential for electric infrastructure, such as shell parts for charging stations, switches and terminals. Lanxess expands production of high-performance materials in Germany
