Borat, Italy, October 16, 2018 --- Solvay, the world's leading supplier of specialty polymers, has introduced the first Ryton® polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) extrusion grade as a injection molding for mature Ryton® PPS. Material supplements can be used together for demanding automotive coolant piping assembly products.
The new Ryton® PPS extrusion range is available in three sizes, Ryton® XE3500BL, Ryton® XE4500BL and Ryton® XE5500BL. These grades are available in stiffness from 1500 MPa (218 ksi) to 2500 MPa (363 ksi). Meets the requirements of flexible pipe for different wall thicknesses and diameters, or for hot forming after extrusion. Solvay's new flexible polymer tubing for flexible coolant lines in melt strength, chemical resistance and thermal stability , and the performance of tensile elongation and impact strength are more excellent.
Solvay injection molding grades include Ryton® XE5430BL (30% glass filled) and Ryton® R-4-270BL (40% glass filled). These materials have proven to be suitable for a wide range of existing connectors and bracket accessories. , enabling automotive OEMs to design integrated coolant line assemblies that are fully coordinated with the engine and transmission.
'The high temperatures in the hood continue to challenge the limits of existing coolant lines and material solutions, and the safety factor is constantly being oppressed,' Andreas Lutz, Regional Development Manager, Global Business Unit, Solvay Specialty Polymers Pointed out: 'The size of the engine is shrinking, and high-temperature components such as turbochargers, superchargers, automatic transmissions, air conditioners and exhaust gas recirculation systems are becoming increasingly popular, all of which are crowded in ever-smaller engines. This has led to 'space tightening', which may exceed the temperature that traditional metal/rubber and polyamide design parts can withstand.'
Since the coolant line is one of the components designed to match the engine compartment in the final stage, its material must not only provide design freedom to achieve more complex wiring, but also must have better heat and chemical resistance. To ensure safe operation without additional weight (eg no additional insulation).
Solvay's Ryton® PPS extrusion technology enables OEMs to use Ryton® PPS injection grade connectors, overmolded brackets and soldering brackets for these smooth, lightweight, integrated solutions instead of complications Expensive powertrain fluid handling lines.
Some major automotive OEMs in Europe have developed integrated lightweight Ryton® PPS solutions, while other OEM manufacturers are investigating their use in various coolant, engine and power transmission oil handling systems. Replace existing composite (metal/rubber) and polyamide (PA) designs. 'The more complex the fluid handling lines, the more significant the Ryton® PPS has in terms of weight reduction and simplified manufacturing and assembly costs,' adds Lutz.
In addition to its expertise in polymers, Solvay also provides comprehensive innovation and technical support services for the recently expanded application development center in Borati, Italy, to help automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers make the most of Ryton® PPS. Potential, to maximize benefits.
