The UN General Assembly held a special meeting to discuss the reduction of plastic waste

The 73rd UN General Assembly held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York held a special meeting on the 24th to discuss the global problem of working together to reduce plastic waste.

Since the 1950s, more than 8.3 billion tons of plastics have been produced worldwide. Currently, 8 million tons of plastic waste flows into the ocean every year.

At the special meeting, the participants shared their experiences in dealing with plastic waste and called on more people to participate in the response. UNEP also invited relevant parties to participate in the 'global plastic platform' in order to build consensus and take Joint action to reduce plastic waste.

Participants believed that people should be encouraged to change their consumption habits and reduce plastic waste. At the same time, they advocate a circular economy around the world, improve the recyclability of plastics, and provide more effective plastic waste treatment solutions.
