US September polystyrene contract price rose by an average of 2 cents per pound (about 44 US dollars / ton) after rising raw material prices in August. August raw material prices and some raw material prices fell this month brought double pressure on the market .
Anxun statistics show that spot prices of benzene, ethylene and styrene all increased in August, but only ethylene prices rose further in September. Normally, PS demand in September is not large, but still better than later this year. The spot price of benzene and styrene was lower this month, while the spot price of ethylene increased. This brought complicated pressure on pricing in October.
The direct impact of benzene and ethylene price changes on PS is higher than that of styrene on PS. The spot price of ethylene has increased by 26% from August 31 to September 14, and the price has not changed much in the week of September 21. The spot price of benzene averaged 2.83 US dollars per gallon from September 1 to 20, and the average price in August was 2.95 US dollars per gallon.
