September 14, Eastman Chemical Company announced its saflex® polyvinyl acetal (PVB) production facility in Suzhou, China to complete the upgrade. This investment reflects Eastman's ongoing commitment to the glass processing industry and is a positive response to the growing demand for customers in the Asia Pacific region. This upgrade will shorten the lead time for Eastman in the region to continue to meet the needs of customers worldwide.

This upgrade focuses on the production of Eastman Advanced Sound Insulation Intermediate film products, which are mainly used in the automotive and construction laminated glass field. The Eastman Suzhou Plant was established in 2007 to meet the growing demand for PVB in the automotive industry in Asia. In 2012, Eastman increased the production capacity of PVB intermediate membranes for automobiles and construction.

The upgrade will enhance the production capacity of Eastman's soundproof intermediate film products.
