Irgatec® improves the gas permeability and long-term thermal stability of polypropylene meltblown nonwoven materials
September 6th, 2018 - South Korea's polypropylene (PP) meltblown nonwovens manufacturer - Korea Nonwovens Technology Co., Ltd. introduced a new disposable scrubbing rag made with BASF rheology modifier Irgatec®. The rag can provide a healthier alternative to traditional materials.
By using BASF's solution in the production process, Korea Nonwovens Technology (KNT) has successfully developed a new meltblown grade non-woven fabric that has better barrier and mechanical properties than conventional meltblown grades. The meltblown grade was originally introduced as a filter application, and KNT developed it to further expand its business. One of the new areas is the one-time scrubbing rag. As consumers value health and hygiene, they are indoors. Disposable wipes for outdoor use are becoming more and more popular. Monofilaments made with Irgatec additives are thinner and stronger than the prior art, making the fabrics tougher, with paper, spunbond nonwovens and traditional meltblown grade nonwovens. Compared with existing materials, the cleaning efficiency is higher.
Hermann Althoff, senior vice president of BASF and responsible for the Asia Pacific Specialty Chemicals Division, said: 'Our additives help customers to manufacture high-end nonwoven fabrics with unique properties in an economical way. The key to making nonwovens with Irgatec Advantages include: Enhanced barrier properties for meltblown fabrics, improved mechanical properties, and flexibility in raw materials to help reduce costs. 'Kwang-il Kwon, CEO of Korea Nonwovens Technology Co., Ltd., said: 'With BASF flow change Sex Agents, we have introduced a melt-blown high-quality disposable scrubbing rag with better strength, elasticity and thickness, and thus become the leader in the Korean market.
Meltblown is a one-step process that uses a high-speed hot gas stream to form a molten polymer into a microfiber web. Meltblown technology requires no controlled stretching and direct web formation from the molten polymer, which has significant cost advantages over other systems. Microfibers have a very large surface area and are suitable for (or beneficial to) a variety of applications.
Irgatec is a controlled rheology modification of polypropylene for non-woven applications. It is very effective at extrusion temperatures in excess of 250 ° C and is therefore particularly suitable for polypropylene melt blowing applications. This fabric does not irritate the skin, so it is suitable for use. For a variety of hygiene products, such as diapers, cleaning wipes, filtration products and medical applications.
