According to media reports, Borouge, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and Austrian Borealis, has signed a contract with Maire Tecnimont for engineering, procurement and construction of the fifth polypropylene (PP5) plant in Ruwais.
The UAE news agency, Wam, reported that this would increase Borouge's polypropylene capacity by 25% to 2.24 million tons per year and provide new opportunities to consolidate local industries.
The new PP5 plant has a nameplate capacity of 480,000 tons/year and will be merged with Royce's existing Borouge 3 plant, which is expected to be commissioned in the third quarter of 2021.
The establishment of the PP5 plant in Ruwais has greatly contributed to Borouge's 11% increase in polymer production capacity to 5 million tons per year, which is closely related to Adnoc and Borealis' ambition to increase polymer production capacity.
The PP5 plant will be the tenth Borstar plant in Ruwais, which will ensure the global supply of creative polypropylene products based on the partnership between Adnoc and Borealis.
