The Factory lab in Manchester is equipped with a range of barrier and adhesion measuring instruments to provide customers with a full range of services.
Penetration measurement
The latest equipment includes two new Mocon units for measuring the oxygen transmittance of the Mocon OX-TRAN2/22 and for measuring the water vapor transmittance of Mocon permatran-w 3/34.
These measuring systems are used to test the permeation of oxygen (OTR) and water vapor (WVTR) on aluminized films and Alox transparent barrier films.
If the material is used for food packaging, it must be ensured that the aluminized film has a certain barrier to ensure that the food does not deteriorate and meet the required shelf life.
Rubbing test test
Another new feature is the Brugger KFT-C Flex Endurance tester, used to simulate the possible stress conditions in the packaging material during processing, as well as in the general storage, transportation and retail environments.
For composite aluminized or alumina films, durability testing is useful because after this rigorous testing process, the material can be tested again on the Mocon unit to determine the extent to which the barrier data is affected, giving customers a better understanding of the actual performance of their material.
Adhesion measurement
The laboratory is also equipped with the Mecmesin Multi test 2.5-i tensile tester for the measurement of metal adhesion levels of the EMA (European Aluminum Plating Association) EAA (ethylene acrylic acid) test.
This test can be used to determine whether the material is suitable for packaging, because the adhesion between the metal layer and the polymer substrate will be layered, resulting in unqualified packaging.
Tests conducted in the show Manchester can detect the difference in adhesion between ordinary aluminized films and films produced using Bobst alubond® special processes. For film manufacturers to provide barrier performance and adhesion measurement services
