Huawei rumors 5G patent fee standard is 4%: Charge is too high, we do not extort

With the convening of the global 5G conference, Qualcomm and Ericsson have announced their own 5G patent charging standards. At this time, there are also news that mobile phone manufacturers want to use Huawei's 5G patents, they must pay 4% of each mobile phone. Royalties.

In response, Huawei quickly responded. Huawei said that it has never announced a charging plan, and that 'any single right owner is too expensive to charge 4%. It is unreasonable.'

In the official response, Huawei explained that Huawei does not plan to charge patents at 4%. In the future, Huawei will strictly abide by the FRAND principle in patent licensing activities, not to blackmail industry and society, and advocate other efforts to promote the implementation of 5G technology. The right holder makes the patent accrual rate lower than 4G, more transparent.

At present, Qualcomm, Huawei, and Ericsson are considered to be the main holders of 5G patents. In addition to Huawei, both Qualcomm and Ericsson have announced their respective 5G patent licensing fees.

According to Qualcomm's previously announced 5G patent charging standard: using Qualcomm's standard essential patents, and only supporting 5G mobile phones, will charge 2.275% (according to the price of the whole machine) patent fees; use Qualcomm standard essential patents, and support 3G/ 4G/5G mobile phones will charge a 3.25% patent fee;

Use Qualcomm standard essential patent plus non-standard essential patent, and only support 5G mobile phone, will charge 4% of the patent fee; use Qualcomm standard essential patent plus non-standard essential patent, and support 3G/4G/5G mobile phone, will Charge 5% of the patent fee.

In addition, Qualcomm also said that the smart phone 5G licensing fee is capped at $400.

Ericsson's 5G patent license fee is: For high-end handheld devices, the license fee is set at $5/part; for low-end handheld devices, the license fee can be as low as $2.5/part.

There is no doubt that if Huawei achieves this commitment, it will be a better choice for many mobile phone manufacturers, but due to technical differences, the competition between the three companies is not so intense.
