Marvell Showcases Innovative EDSFF Data Storage Solution at Flash Summit

Marvell announces a new reference design solution for emerging EDSFF applications designed to meet the growing demand for denser, higher capacity solid state drives (SSDs) in the data center and enterprise. These comprehensive EDSFF reference designs incorporate the latest Marvell models. PCIe®Gen3x4 SSD Controller IC.

The newly released reference design includes an EDSFF demo board with a pair of 8-channel 88SS1088SSD controllers, or a pair of 8-channel 88SS1098 controllers. In addition to these NVMe?? SSD controllers, Marvell also offers the 88NR2241 intelligent NVMe switch as its expandable Part of the Data Center Storage Architecture Chipset Solution. The 88NR2241 can be deployed on EDSFF boards for extended functionality, reducing the total cost of ownership for cloud and enterprise data center applications. The switch is specifically designed for dual port support, SSD virtualization , performance aggregation and resource management between multiple NVMe SSDs.

The 88SS1088 and 88SS1098 offer 32TB of maximum data storage capacity for NAND memories from different vendors. These SSD controllers were introduced in March this year based on quad-core and dual quad-core Arm® Cortex®-R5 architectures with up to 3.6Gb/s data throughput and up to 700k per second random input and output (IOPS). They are suitable for a variety of low-latency single-stage (SLC) and multi-level cell (MLC) applications, including third-order Both the unit (TLC) and the fourth-order unit (QLC). Both products use Marvell's latest generation of proprietary NANDEdge? Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) error correction technology to ensure maximum durability and reliability. And data integrity, and can extend the life of the SSD.
