The Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea said on the 1st that in order to completely solve the problem of rejecting discarded plastics in the spring, a 40-day legislative notice will be implemented on the relevant legal amendments from the 2nd, and disposable plastic bags will be completely banned in shopping malls and supermarkets from the end of the year.
According to the Yonhap News Agency, at present, the Korean Act stipulates that shopping malls and supermarkets are not allowed to provide disposable plastic bags free of charge. However, the amendments to the “Rules for the Implementation of the Law on Resource Conservation and Promotion of Recycling” have been revised, including large-scale supermarkets. It is completely forbidden to provide disposable plastic bags at the end of the mall.
As a result, more than 11,000 supermarkets and more than 2,000 large-scale shopping malls will only be able to provide customers with measuring garbage bags, empty paper boxes and green shopping bags in the future.
The amendment stipulates that the bakery dessert shop will not provide free disposable plastic bags in the future. In addition, plastics for dry cleaners and transport packaging, plastic umbrellas for umbrellas, disposable plastic gloves, and food wrap will also be included in the producer responsibility extension (EPR). The system applies the item, and the producer bears more responsibility for the recycling of waste plastics.
