According to a recent survey in Singapore, Singaporeans use a total of at least 1.76 billion plastic bags, plastic bottles and disposable plastic containers each year. The Singapore Environment Council plans to conduct public education in the near future to encourage people to try to reduce the use of a plastic product every day.
The Environmental Council and Deloitte Corporate Risk Management Pte Ltd conducted a survey on the use of plastic products for 1003 people of all ages from December last year to May this year.
According to the survey released on July 31, Singaporeans use 1.76 billion pieces of plastic products each year, of which 820 million are plastic bags from major supermarkets; 467 million are plastic bottles; and 473 million are plastic containers.
49% of respondents said that they use more than 3 plastic bags every time they go to the supermarket, and 14% of respondents use more than 6 plastic bags each time they go to the supermarket, while the number of self-provided bags is only 15%.
As for how to dispose of the plastic bags in the home, most of the respondents said they would use it to throw away the garbage. Only 11% of the respondents indicated that they would reuse the shopping bags.
Supermarkets in Singapore generally do not charge extra for plastic bags provided to customers. It is understood that the survey is only for the use of plastic products in supermarkets, the actual data may be higher.
According to statistics, the world uses 500 billion plastic bags every year, and at least 8 million tons of plastics enter the ocean every year. In response to the pollution hazard of plastics, the theme of this year's World Environment Day is 'plastic warfare', many countries have responded and declared war on plastics. ' .
