Recently, more than 70 companies and organizations issued a joint statement calling on the French government to develop a 3GW floating offshore wind power in the Mediterranean region by 2030 and to include development plans for the Mediterranean region.
The joint statement was a response to a former French president, Macron, to develop a floating offshore wind power in the Mediterranean region. The Mediterranean is not only beautiful scenery, but also France, the European wind resources in one of the best areas, where the development of offshore wind power will play a key role in France's energy transformation.
At the same time, the Mediterranean meteorological, tidal, temperature and other conditions are very suitable for the development of floating offshore wind power. Earlier, France planned 4 floating offshore wind power demonstration projects, of the 4 floating offshore wind farms, 3 are in the Mediterranean Sea, 1 are on the coast of Brittany, each project capacity is 24MW, the project has received 330 million euros of financing support and fixed electricity price support, is expected to be run in 2020-2021.
The successful experience of these demonstration plants has contributed to the development of the French floating offshore wind power, helping France to continue to lead the floating offshore wind power industry. Earlier, the French government announced that it would launch a survey of floating offshore wind power technology to identify areas suitable for floating offshore wind power, and began preparing for the first floating offshore wind power bidding scheme.
In a statement, the group said it hoped the French government would hold tenders in 2019 and that they would participate actively.
