SK hynix built a new 53,000 square meter memory factory: an investment of 21.5 billion yuan

SK hynix announced today that it will build a new semiconductor factory in Lichuan, Gyeonggi-do, to meet the growing demand for the memory chip market.

The new factory has a total area of 53,000 square meters. It is expected to start construction at the end of 2018. It is planned to be completed in October 2020, with a total investment of 3.4 trillion won (about RMB 21.5 billion).

The plant will mainly produce memory chips, but the specific capacity allocation will be determined according to future market conditions and technological development.

In addition to building a new plant, SK hynix will continue to increase the capacity of the M14 plant in Licheon (built in 2015), accelerate the construction of a new plant in Qingzhou, Korea, and expand the clean room area of the Wuxi plant in China, which is expected to be completed in the second half of this year. All are to adapt to the huge memory market.

SK hynix also pointed out that as the size and size of semiconductor manufacturing equipment become larger and larger, it is necessary to build enough clean rooms in advance.

Since the arrival of SK Group, the third largest financial valve in Korea in 2012, SK hynix has received strong investment support. This is the third new plant after the new factory in Lichuan City, M14, Qingzhou City.

When the new plant is completed and the equipment is installed, the total investment will exceed 46 trillion won (about 280 billion yuan).
