Earlier we already knew that Intel's 10nm processor was postponed to 2019, so when is it?
In today’s second quarter earnings meeting, Intel said that The 10nm chip will start to be supplied in large quantities in the second half of 2019. Subsequently, they further confirmed that the 10nm consumer CPU will be shipped before the holiday, Xeon trailing.
The important holidays in the second half of the United States are nothing more than the summer and winter of students, the public Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.
Regarding the 10nm extension, Venkata Renduchintala, head of the Intel Customer Computing Group, revealed an important reason. That is the company needs to have enough confidence in its earnings. There are several layers of meaning here. For example, the current 10nm process cost is still high, the customer demand is not strong enough, the competitiveness of the product itself needs to be optimized, and so on.
For 14nm, the troubles that have been caused to consumers since 2014, Renduchintala believes that 14nm still has room for improvement, and it has increased its performance by 70% since its launch. Intel processor product updates need to be considered in all aspects. Various factors are used to achieve balance. In order to ensure a more prominent leadership position in other technical fields, the cycle of technological upgrading needs to be extended.
According to earlier statements, Intel will release the Whiskey Lake and Amber Lake architecture processors based on the 14nm++ process this fall.
