On July 24, 2018, Santiago, Chile, Chilean engineers Roberto Astete and Christian Olivares held a press conference to showcase a new material that can be completely dissolved in water and can be used to replace plastic bags and other plastic products. After modifying the chemical formula of (polyvinyl alcohol), they managed to find an environmentally friendly product without any oil derivatives.
