According to Anandtech, this week, Toshiba laid a new BiCS 3D flash memory plant in Iwate Prefecture, Japan, scheduled to be completed by the end of 2019.
Toshiba said Western Digital also plans to participate in the project, but the latter has not yet officially announced.
According to the data, the plant will become Toshiba's largest flash memory factory, and the production capacity will be the highest at that time. The factory has a larger dust-free workshop, and also enters artificial intelligence technology to provide high-level seismic protection.
The Iwate Plant is expected to be commissioned in 2020 and will be a useful complement to Fab 2 and Fab 6.
It is worth mentioning that Fab 2/6 is jointly operated by Western Digital and Toshiba. The first phase of Fab 6 is expected to start operation this summer, and the second phase of next year will be launched.
According to the information currently available, the flash memory capacity in the next few years is very guaranteed, especially the gradual promotion of QLC will further lower the price of SSD unit capacity.
