Davis said: 'We believe that Apple intends to use only competitors' modems instead of our modems in the next generation of iPhones. But we will continue to provide modems for Apple's legacy devices.'
It is almost certain that Qualcomm's competitors include Intel and others.
Qualcomm has been providing modems for Apple, but in recent years, Intel has provided more than half of its chips for Apple's iPhone due to a patent licensing dispute between Apple and Qualcomm. According to Reuters last October, Apple is designing a Qualcomm chip. iPhone and iPad, this change may affect the products released in the fall of 2018.
Despite this setback, Qualcomm president Cristiano Amon seems optimistic about the company's position in the market and its future relationship with Apple.
Amon said: 'We are very optimistic about our leadership in the field of modems... we will continue to invest in this field.'
He added: 'If the opportunity takes the initiative, I think we will still be the supplier of Apple (modem).'
A few hours after the earnings report, Qualcomm shares rose more than 5%. The company abandoned its acquisition of semiconductor company NXP and plans to repurchase shares of up to $30 billion.
