This evening, the internationally renowned research institute Canalys released the ranking of China's smartphone rankings in the second quarter of 2018.
According to the report, after the rapid decline of China's smartphones in the first quarter, sales in the second quarter of this year began to rise, with total sales reaching 104 million units. However, compared with the same period in 2017, the ratio of 113 million units still fell, down 8% year-on-year.
Specifically, Huawei became the biggest winner in the second quarter. Their market rose to 27%, which also created the largest share of Chinese smartphone manufacturers since the second quarter of 2011. Huawei sold a total of 28.5 million smartphones during the quarter.
OPPO and vivo ranked second and third with 21% and 20% respectively. The two companies still have growth year-on-year. It is worth noting that vivo has increased by 30% year-on-year, narrowing the gap with OPPO. In this quarter, OPPO sales were approximately 22.17 million units, and the sales volume of vivo was approximately 21.11 million units.
Xiaomi's market share rose by 14% from 13% in the same period last year, ranking fourth. However, sales did not change year-on-year, with sales of about 14.78 million units this quarter.
More notably, in the second quarter, Huawei, OPPO, vivo, and Xiaomi had a total market share of 82%. Three of the four companies achieved positive growth, while the other was flat. Other vendors fell 55% year-on-year. Canalys said The top five vendors accounted for 90% of the market, compared with 73% in the same period last year. This indicates that the market is still accelerating.
Huawei's growth momentum comes from its sub-brand 'Glory', and its shipments increased by 55% in the second quarter. Canalys analysis believes that glory has a high degree of autonomy in Huawei, which has promoted its place in the market. The flagship has also successfully expanded to a market segment of more than $500. And glory continues to erode millet's market share in the low-end market.
For the entire Chinese market, Canalys believes that although the Chinese smartphone market is showing signs of recovery, it will not change very quickly. It is expected that the market will continue to decline in the next few quarters. The main factor dragging the market is the serious decline of small and medium-sized brands.
In addition, canalys analysts also said that there are factors affecting Chinese smartphones, such as Sino-US trade war, RMB exchange rate, etc. This market may be easier for brands like Huawei, but it is more difficult for Xiaomi, OPPO, and vivo.
