On June 14 this year, the International Organization for Standardization (3GPP) determined the 5G independent networking standard and completed the first phase of standardization work, marking the critical period for global 5G development to enter commercial deployment.
On the 17th, at the 3rd 5G and Future Network Strategy Seminar hosted by the FuTURE Promotion Committee, Chen Lidong, deputy director of the Information and Communication Development Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, pointed out that '5G as the main direction of the development of new generation information and communication technology will become the Internet of Everything. The important network infrastructure, and the continuous development of information technology and applications have put forward higher requirements for information and communication networks. Openness, virtualization, intelligence, and convergence have become important features and development directions of the future network.
Chen Lidong said that the development of 5G requires close cooperation and joint efforts of all walks of life. To this end, he proposed four suggestions: First, accelerate the promotion of the maturity of the 5G industry. Consolidate the synergy of industries, closely follow international standards, and use technology research and development experiments as a platform to promote the system. , the chip, terminal, instrument and other industrial chain accelerate the maturity of all links, and strive to launch commercial system equipment in line with the first version of 5G international standards by the end of 2018, laying the industrial foundation for 5G commercial;
The second is to continue to promote technological innovation. Strengthen the evolution of mobile communication air interface technology, research on new technologies such as millimeter wave, terahertz, quantum communication, etc., lay the foundation for the development of 5G enhanced technology and 6G. Accelerate 5G, future network and cloud computing, large Deep integration of ICT cutting-edge technologies such as data and artificial intelligence to promote the development of intelligent networks;
The third is to focus on the development of cross-industry integration. Vigorously cultivate 5G and future network technology in the industrial, energy, transportation, medical and other economic and social integration applications, let 5G and other network technologies play an effective role in innovative production methods, improve production efficiency, and help Traditional industry transformation and development;
The fourth is to strengthen international cooperation and exchanges. The global technology and industry should further deepen cooperation, promote consensus, jointly promote standards, technologies, experiments and application promotion of 5G and future networks, and work together to build a global industrial ecosystem of cooperation and win-win.
Xu Wei, head of research and development at Qualcomm China, said that from the second half of 2018, there will be a large amount of pre-commercial work, and from 2019, 5G commercials will have more milestones. 'In the next half year In order to promote the commercialization of 5G into reality in 2019, Qualcomm will conduct more test research.
Participants believe that the development of 5G is not only the innovation of air interface technology, the increasingly complex communication systems in the future, the diversification of new services, new requirements, new scenarios, and the higher requirements for flexibility and intelligentization of network deployment. Furthermore, the network poses more challenges in terms of openness and flexibility, so deep ICDT integration will become an inevitable requirement of the future network.
Based on this consensus, the industry has begun some attempts, such as the introduction of IT into CT, the realization of communication system virtualization (NFV) and software (SDN), the introduction of DT (such as big data, artificial intelligence) into CT, using AI technology Maturity further enhances the intelligence level of wireless networks. Future network changes will push the information and communication technology chain and industry chain into a new phase of change and remodeling.
The reporter noted that for high-speed 5G applications that provide the ultimate experience, the use of high-bandwidth can support extremely high-speed rate transmission and ultra-wide bandwidth requirements in 5G service applications, so future 5G network deployments require high-frequency millimeter-wave bands. Support, the current 5G high-band research has become the focus of the industry.
At this meeting, the 5G microwave millimeter wave technology special working group set up by the FuTURE Promotion Committee issued a white paper on 5G millimeter wave spectrum planning proposal. The white paper pointed out that 24.75-27.5GHz and 37-42.5GHz should be planned as early as possible to give clear guidance to the industry. Directions, it is recommended to complete the frequency plan by the end of 2018, supporting the 2019 millimeter wave pre-commercial test and the 2020 millimeter wave large-scale commercial deployment.
In addition, according to the development law of mobile communication in the past 10 years, the first generation of technology commercialization was also the beginning of the next generation of technology. The industry's follow-up evolution and technology cultivation of 5G has quietly launched, affecting the technological direction of the next 10-15 years.
