Previously, many sources pointed out that Apple is seeking more OLED suppliers. In addition to Samsung, LG and Sharp are also actively pursuing Apple's OLED orders. However, it was later reported that LG will be absent due to manufacturing processes, production capacity and other issues. In the end, this year's iPhone OLED panel will be exclusively supplied by Samsung. However, there is now a new saying.
According to South Korea's economic news website Newspim, the supply chain said that LG DIsplay has signed an agreement with Apple. In the second half of this year, LG Display will provide LCD and OLED screens for Apple, and the next generation of iPhone will be adopted.
This means that the iPhone X II (5.8-inch), iPhone X Plus (6.5-inch), and 6.1-inch cheap iPhones, which will be launched in September this year, are expected to adopt LG screens.
It is understood that LG Display will provide Apple with 3 million to 4 million OLED displays and 20 million LCD displays, of which OLED displays will be produced on the production line in Paju, South Korea. Another news said that LG is expanding The production capacity of the E6 plant in Paju City will wait until 2019, when the production line is fully opened, LG Display will be expected to obtain an order for Apple's 6.5-inch OLED display.
In view of this, LG Display has also increased its shipment of OLED screens to 10 million units this year. The report pointed out that the transaction is expected to improve the status quo of LG Display. In the first quarter of 2018, LG's net loss reached 98.3 billion won ( About $87.04 million).
LG Display's OLED screen for Apple's iPhone is not unexpected. After all, LG Display has been the main supplier of Apple's display panels. It has provided small-size OLED screens for Apple Watch (more than 70%). Apple iPad and Mac notebooks provide LCD screens.
It is worth mentioning that since May this year, Samsung has started to produce OLED screens for Apple's next-generation iPhone X/X Plus, and plans to double its production capacity in June to meet Apple's supply needs.
It can be seen that the upcoming new iPhone stocking is still quite sufficient, coupled with the low price, this year's iPhone can be purchased with confidence.
