The international environmental organization WWF launched the 'Reshape the Future, Who First Shot' campaign in China, aimed at promoting the elimination of disposable plastic catering products represented by plastic straws. WWF named KFC, McDonald's, costa coffee, Starbucks and other multinational restaurant chains Enterprises, urged them to implement plastic reduction commitments in China as soon as possible, in line with international standards. At the same time, WWF appealed to the public not to take the initiative to request plastic straws, to promote the reduction of disposable plastic products.
It is reported that the above brands have implemented or promised to stop plastic straws in other countries in the world. For example, in May, Starbucks launched biodegradable paper straws in 54 stores in London and Manchester, UK; Straws; McDonald's in the UK, Ireland and India will also use paper straws instead of plastic straws, etc. But these initiatives have not yet been implemented in China.
On the afternoon of July 9, Starbucks officially promised to stop using plastic straws in more than 28,000 stores around the world by 2020. Starbucks China will also fulfill this commitment to stop using plastic straws in stores nationwide by 2020.
Starbucks said in an interview that it has designed, developed and manufactured a cup lid that does not require the use of a straw, which will later become the standard lid for iced coffee, tea and espresso drinks.
