According to reports, the first batch of semi-solid lithium batteries have been unveiled. It is a replacement for traditional lithium-ion batteries, safer, but cheaper than lithium polymer batteries.
Lithium polymer batteries are also safe, but they can burn and explode when damaged. Mobile phone safety problems often occur, but they are much more stable than lithium-ion batteries.
The semi-solid lithium battery maintains a relatively safe characteristic. The ultra-thin anode made of pure lithium foil is coated with a polymer ceramic electrolyte to prevent any dendrite growth. In some battery designs, dendrite growth causes the battery to be short-circuited. This design is semi-solid, more stable than the lithium-ion battery itself, more secure, and the energy density is about double that of ordinary lithium-ion batteries.
For large drones, this type of battery is very easy to use. In addition to its own safety, the increase in energy density means that more power can be contained in a unit volume, effectively increasing the endurance of the drone. After the machine uses solid-state lithium batteries, this battery technology will enter the field of wearable devices in 2019.
It is expected that in 2021, after mass production of large quantities, it will gradually enter the automotive industry.
