Recently, we got a 240Hz ultra-high refresh rate display from AOC, the AOC AG251FG of 240Hz, which is 4 times of the 60Hz of the ordinary display we usually use, and nearly 100 frames higher than the 144Hz of the e-sports standard. How smooth is the 240Hz display to play the game? I am also looking forward to it.
In the specific evaluation below, we will use the shutter of the SLR camera to capture the screen of the monitor, and look at the normal 60Hz, a full 4 times the refresh rate brings the feeling.
Appearance & Design: Many uses of the base, but the front is a narrow border.
There is not much to say about the whole family portrait. The panel bracket wire has these standard components. The wire is standard with DP cable, and there is one more microphone cable.
Interface, there are 4 USB interfaces, two distributed at the bottom, two distributed on the side, distributed on the side to facilitate the user to plug and unplug the USB device, give a good comment, there is also a USB uplink interface. Video output has 1 DP, 1 HDMI interface, is a normal operation.
Another thing to praise here is that the AOC AG251FG is equipped with a horn. This is really convenient. It is too friendly for a friend who can hear enough. By the way, I know that many monitors are desktops. Users, many manufacturers do not standard speakers, not friendly enough for ordinary users.
But this is a common phenomenon in the industry, probably to reduce costs, and it seems that there is also a lack of sardines in the market, so it has become a stable situation over time.
The base and bracket parts are made of aluminum alloy, silver sandblasted, and have a metallic feel. The mounting base and bracket are tool-free, but the brackets and panels need 4 screws to fix the top of the bracket. Designed the handle, very intimate.
The bracket part has two small details that are very hard. One is the scale on the bracket. The black letters on the silver floor are naked and the red triangle will rise and fall with the bracket.
The second is the axis of rotation between the bracket and the panel. The red corner indicates the angle of twist. This feeling of conveying the user's 'precision' is really a favorite of the party and the craftsman, although it is not used at all. But the key moment to show up is completely OK.
Game performance: 240Hz ultra high refresh rate + G-Sync invincible fluency
AOC AG251FG has a super high refresh rate of +1ms response of 240Hz, which is nearly 100Hz more than the 144Hz of many e-sports monitors we have reviewed before. The refresh rate of 240Hz is the highest refresh in the current e-sports display. Rate, quite awesome.
Another point is that this monitor also adds G-Sync synchronization technology, how is it turned on? First need a DP cable to connect (monitor standard), HDMI cable can not be set to 240fps, and then in NVidia Set to ON in the control panel, set the refresh rate to 240fps.
Say a little feeling, when I increase the refresh rate from 60 to 144 or 240, the movement of the mouse can be noticed to be significantly smoother, 240 is 4 times 60, ah, even dragging a file with a mouse I feel so cool.
Next is the actual experience of the game, we used a typical FPS game "Watching Pioneer" to test.
In the advanced settings of the game, the vertical sync is turned off. With G-Sync, the refresh rate is adjusted to 60 and 240 fps respectively. There are two feelings: smoother and less tearing. What is the difference between 240Hz and 144Hz? Personally feel that sliding the mouse is almost fluent.
Although we can shoot 1080p 240fps video, most of the screens used by netizens and users are 60fps refresh rate.
Moreover, network communication does not support the uploading of high frame rate video. The big members of B station can only watch 1080p 60fps video at the highest level. Therefore, the super high refresh rate can't be visualized, but we can still change the way. Reflect the power of this display.
We capture the image on the screen with a fixed shutter time of the SLR. Since the high refresh rate shows more images per second, the camera captures more motion during a fixed shutter time.
We adjust the camera shutter to 1/30 second, then adjust the display refresh rate to 60/144/240fps respectively. In theory, the camera should be able to capture 2/4.8/8 motion tracks. Let’s take a look at the real shot below. .
↑↑↑ (60fps robot moves to see 2 ghosts)
↑↑↑ (60fps sees the bullet move 2 segments)
↑↑↑ (144fps robot has a very smooth smear)
↑↑↑ (144 bullet trajectories are more heavy)
↑↑↑ (240fps robot moves more smoothly)
↑↑↑ (240fps bullet trajectory is similar to 144fps)
It can be seen that the trajectory of the robot movement, at 60fps, the picture is 'relatively stuck', the 144fps is much smoother, basically sees a coherent picture, and 240fps goes further, from the camera capture picture More coherent, but the difference between the naked eye and the 144 is already very small.
Another point is that the addition of G-Sync really makes the picture more stable and rarely tears, and the operation delay is less than vertical synchronization.
↑↑↑ (The picture tears when G-Sync is not turned on)
In addition, AOC AG251FG also made some optimizations for e-sports games, such as shadow scene control and game tone control.
Dark field control can increase the brightness of the dark part of the picture to see enemies in the dark, while game tone control can change the gray level and color saturation of the screen to suit different game scenes.
Summary, in terms of e-sports performance, 240fps ultra-high refresh rate fluency did not have to say, is the usual 4f refresh rate of 60fps screen, 4 times ah, really is a new smooth you have not experienced Experience!
The addition of G-Sync also makes the picture more stable, and it also has a response time of 1ms, which is almost the most powerful display of e-sports.
Screen quality: Can't match the design screen but play the game enough
This esports super-powerful screen uses a 1080p TN screen, so there are still old problems in the viewing angle. Let's take a look at the test results of Starscream.
We used the Starscream 5 professional colorimeter to measure the screen quality. We chose Spyder5 to perform a comprehensive test from the color gamut of the display, color reproduction, color temperature consistency, chroma uniformity, brightness uniformity, and gamma curve.
Ambient light color temperature: 6500K ambient light: 51Lux signal input: HDMI conforms to ISO3664 standard
Gamut coverage:
Through actual testing, we can see that the sRGB color gamut of the display is 100%, and the AdobeRGB color gamut is 77%. As an e-sports screen, the AdobeRGB color gamut reaches 77%, which is rare, and can be felt in daily use. Good, almost cover the colors we have in our daily eyes.
In the gamut evaluation, the evaluation given by our PConline is: excellent.
Gamma curve:
In the gamma curve test, the curve of AOC AG251FG is 1.8, and there is still a certain gap with the standard value of 2.2. For the performance of this block, we give the following results: good.
Color uniformity:
In terms of color uniformity, AOC AG251FG is at an excellent level of display color uniformity, with a maximum difference of only 3.1; but brightness uniformity, up to 16%, is a good level. In this part of the test, our overall evaluation is : excellent.
Color accuracy:
We tested the AOC AG251FG with 48 groups of colors. From the results of the ΔE values of the various colors in the above figure, the performance is generally excellent.
Among the 48 test scores, the average value of ΔE is 1.31, and the maximum value is 4.88. The lesser the colored bar graph on the right side of the graph, the better the color accuracy. The display deviates most seriously on the dark green. The last evaluation we gave by PConline was: excellent.
AOC AG251FG esports display screen quality gamut coverage excellent gamma curve good chromaticity uniformity excellent brightness uniformity excellent color reproduction accuracy excellent
summary:
We have completed all the performance tests on the screen. Below we will summarize the performance of the AOC AG251FG display.
Combining the above professional test data for color gamut, gamma value, color uniformity, brightness uniformity and color accuracy, our PConline evaluation room's comprehensive evaluation of AOC AG251FG is: Excellent.
AOC AG251FG display has 240fps ultra-high refresh rate + G-Sync synchronization technology +1ms response, which almost represents the strongest e-sports performance today, look at the price, 3599 yuan, not cheap.
It is also not perfect, only 24.5 inches, 1080p resolution, the appearance does not have ultra-narrow bezel design, but the bracket and base are very easy to use, TN screen still has the old problem of viewing angle, but better in 100% sRGB color gamut The color performance is not bad.
So, this is an e-sports monitor for games. If you are an avid e-sports player, you may be climaxing at 240fps.
If you are a practical e-sports player, then I am not sure if you can distinguish the 96-frame difference between the 240Hz display and the 144. My personal feeling is that the difference is not big. The 144 already feels very smooth, so you better have the scene. Feel it and make a decision.
