Black Hills shared the process of creating two password crackers using four GTX 1080 Ti and four GTX 1070 respectively.

The first set of crackers was built entirely from 0. The CPU used the i7-6800K, the motherboard ASUS X99, the memory Zhichi 64GB (4x16GB), the radiator MasterAir Pro 4, Rosewill 1600W power supply, Samsung 850 EVO 500GB fixed disk, The total cost is 5110 US dollars.

The second set of machines used the GTX 1070 to replace the previous AMD 290X, which cost $1600.

In the 16.04 LTS environment, after testing with Hashcat 3.5, the cracking speed of the four-way GTX 1080 Ti is 208 GH/s NTLM, and the GTX 1070 machine is 119 GH/s NTLM. That is, a total of 32700 million NTLM hash passwords can be tried per second.

The most common example of the NTLM hash is the Windows login password. For example, if the user sees test123, the NTLM string encrypted by the MD4 system is actually c5a237b7e9d8e708d8436b6148a25fa1.

Compared to Sagitta's Brutalis password cracker (two-way Intel Xeon E5 2600v4 + 8 N cards), the 334 GH/s level is better, and its price is 21,000 US dollars.
