ON Semiconductor Introduces PWM Buck Regulator Family

EN Semiconductors, which promotes energy-efficient innovation, introduced three new energy-efficient medium voltage pulse-width modulation buck converters.

The new FAN6500X step-down converter family from ON Semiconductor supports a wide input voltage range of 4.5 V to 65 V, output current up to 10 A, output power of 100 W, combined with time-tested fixed-frequency control methods and flexible Type III compensation And robust fault protection. ON Semiconductor integrates PowerTrench MOSFET technology to create a robust integration solution that provides industry-leading power density and energy efficiency for DC-DC applications.

The FAN65008B/5A/4B PWM step-down converter combines ON Semiconductor's PowerTrench MOSFET process and industry-leading packaging technology in a quad flat no-lead (PQFN) package to provide extremely low parasitics on the power path, enabling developers to Achieve 98.5% peak efficiency, lower ringing and better electromagnetic interference (EMI) than using an external MOSFET solution.

All three devices support a wide input voltage range of 4.5 V to 65 V and are suitable for a wide range of industrial and consumer electronics applications, from base station power supplies to home automation. They are also suitable for battery management systems and USB power (PD) applications. Integrating two LDOs and an on-chip power path switch gives designers the flexibility to use the power path to power the controller from the input voltage, buck converter output, or through the PVCC pin.

High levels of integration allow manufacturers to use the FAN6500x series to achieve the right balance of power density, bill of materials (BoM) cost, performance and flexibility. ON Semiconductor has successfully addressed developers' desire for power management by leveraging PowerTrench MOSFET technology The key features that the solution can provide.

The FAN6500x series implements a comprehensive range of functions to protect the device itself and any downstream circuits from damage. These protection features include adjustable overcurrent protection, thermal shutdown, overvoltage protection, and short circuit protection.

Richard Lu, Vice President of Mobile, Computing and Cloud Division of ON Semiconductor, said: “With the release of FAN6500X devices, ON Semiconductor has produced a series of rugged solutions to help customers with industry-leading energy efficiency, power density and flexibility. Meet their medium voltage DC-DC requirements.
