Still looking for a fantasy gaming monitor? Consider the ASUS ROG Swift PG27UQ monitor, 27-inch quantum dot IPS panel, 3840x2160 resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, support for NVIDIA's G-Sync HDR, support for ROG Light Effectiveness, but the price of 1,999 yuan is also no one.

Why is this monitor so expensive? In addition to the amazing specs and belief bonuses, one of the reasons is its high cost.

The new G-Sync HDR module uses Intel's FPGA chip and 3GB DDR4 memory. The cost of the FPGA chip is increased by at least $500.

There has been a wave of G-Sync HDR displays on the market recently. Before NVIDIA stated that their prices were not cheap, at least over a thousand dollars.

ASUS ROG Swift PG27UQ display is probably one of the most expensive, domestic 1,999 yuan.

PCper's website recently reviewed this monitor and did a dismantling, unveiling the secret that monitors are so expensive.

This circuit uses fan cooling, which is the G-Sync HDR module. Players who previously used NVIDIA's G-Sync monitor will probably remember. NVIDIA uses a separate G-Sync module to provide G-Sync to the monitor. The first generation is $199, which is not cheap, but the current G-Sync HDR module is more expensive.

This module does not use the previous ASIC chip. Is Intel's Altera Arria 10 FPGA chip, the specific model is GX 480.

According to official sources, this is a 480,000-gate FPGA chip that supports 24 17.4Gbps transceivers and also supports 222 pairs of LVDS I/O.

In addition to Intel's FPGA chip, G-Sync HDR module also comes with 6 Micron 4Gb memory, total capacity 3GB, rate DDR4-2400, faster and faster than the first generation module's 768MB memory capacity.

From this point of view, the cost of the entire G-Sync HDR module is not low. The price of the Altera Arria 10 FPGA chip found on the online store is as high as 2,600 U.S. dollars. It is clearly impossible for NVIDIA to have this price.

PCper estimates that only the FPGA chip, G-Sync HDR module's cost has increased by at least 500 US dollars, plus 3GB DDR4 memory, so the material cost of G-Sync HDR will indeed be very high.
