Hon Hai first spent $10 billion last year to set up factories in Racine, south of Milwaukee, to produce consumer LCD panels such as TVs. It is estimated that it will employ 13,000 people in the city centre of Milwaukee. The North American headquarters was acquired by Hon Hai at Northwestern Mutual for US$11.5 million.
Wu Guohui, a spokesperson for the Hon Hai Group who participated in the ceremony, stated that 500 employees will work at the North American headquarters and will also set up an innovation center at the headquarters to assist new entrepreneurs or entrepreneurs in their various applications of panel technology.
In addition to the panel factory and the North American headquarters, Hong Hai Offshore Week also launched an internship project with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. It will send students from the engineering department of the school to work for one semester at Hon Hai’s headquarters in Taiwan, and then return home to contribute. It will be in February next year.
Wisconsin, in the north-central United States, is located next to the Great Lakes Region and has a total population of 5.72 million. Milwaukee is the largest city and business center in the state and has a convenient port. In order to welcome the arrival of Hon Hai, it was announced at the end of last year. The state is considering the construction of a self-propelled road to assist Hon Hai employees traveling between Racine County and Milwaukee City. The distance from the city center to Racine County is approximately 50 kilometers. It takes approximately 40 minutes to drive.
