Musk: It's not easy to be a big automaker

Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently said at the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting that it is not an easy task to become a large car manufacturer.

In the past few quarters, Tesla has been struggling to increase the output of the Model 3 electric vehicle. In response, Musk said that becoming a large car manufacturer is not an easy task.

He said: 'In the United States, there are hardly any large automakers that have been able to maintain long-term success. From a long-term perspective, Ford is the only major automaker that has not gone bankrupt. This is not easy.'

Of course, there was also Tesla Musk’s remarks that seemed to target US auto giants General Motors and Chrysler. The two auto giants declared bankruptcy in the 2009 financial crisis. In contrast, Ford Motors survived.

In the past few years, General Motors has begun to accelerate the production of low-end, reliable electric vehicles designed to challenge Tesla. In December 2016, General Motors introduced the pure electric vehicle Chevrolet Bolt EV, which challenges Tesla Model 3.
