Tesla will no longer be working with home building material retail giant Ellon MASC to sell its clean energy products, the company's CEO, 12th, disclosed in an e-mail to employees.
The move is part of a broader restructuring of the electric car maker, which plans to cut 9% of Tesla employees, excluding production-related personnel. "In addition to the company-wide restructuring, we decided not to renew our sales partnership agreement with Home Depot to focus on selling solar energy at Tesla stores and websites," Musk wrote. Most of the Tesla employees who work at home will have the opportunity to move to Tesla's retail outlets to work.
' This February, Tesla announced that it would open a ' mini Solar store ' in 800 Home Depot stores.
The expansion plan is designed to help Tesla promote renewable energy products to the vast majority of users. As a company that Tesla acquired in 2016, SolarCity has sold its solar system through its Home Depot store.
Tesla abandoned the SolarCity brand after the acquisition and now sells its solar products in the name of Tesla Energy. In addition to the traditional solar panels, Tesla is also selling innovative solar roof tiles.
Tesla launched the solar roof project in October 2016 and completed a takeover of SolarCity in November, announcing that it would take six months to test the solar roof. According to Tesla's products, the company's solar roof tiles are 10% to 15% cheaper than traditional solar panel roofs, and the tiles are designed to look like ordinary tiles and are not as conspicuous as conventional solar panels.
