The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, said on the 10th that the consultants commissioned by the SAR Government had initially proposed to provide economic incentives to encourage the public to recycle plastic beverage bottles through cash rebate arrangements.
Huang Jinxing pointed out on the 10th that the SAR Government has actively implemented the Hong Kong resource cycle blueprint. The producer responsibility plan is one of the important measures and has achieved remarkable results. According to local conditions in Hong Kong and other local experiences, the consultant thinks that the plan can be applied to containers for plastic bottles.
After attending a public event on the same day, Huang Jinxing told the media that the consultants commissioned by the SAR Government had used financial incentives based on fees to enable the public to think twice about whether to purchase products. After the plastic bottles were used up, there was a check-in fee to attract the public to recycle plastic bottles. Increase recovery rate.
He said that with reference to the implementation of plastic bottle producer responsibility plan experience in the foreign countries, the recovery rate is as high as 8 to 90%. Hong Kong can make good use of technology, for example, setting up intelligent recycling machines in some parties to increase the recovery rate.
