In order to support the circular economy, French supermarket chain giant Carrefour announced the reduction of disposable packaging.
The plan will be part of Carrefour's Food Transition strategic plan to help Carrefour achieve its 100% recyclable or degradable packaging target by 2025.
Carrefour said that creating a new packaging economy, reducing plastic waste needs collective action and is full of challenges. Carrefour supports 'France achieving 100% packaging recycling economy', which is in line with the French circular economy route development plan (Feuille de route pour l' économie circulaire' (FREC )).
Carrefour believes that consumers and brands need to rethink the reduction of packaging and the use of disposable plastic products while recycling plastics. Carrefour plans to cancel non-recyclable packaging of organic fruits and vegetables by the end of 2018 and stop selling plastic straws. Carrefour plans to start with its organic products and will use recyclable packaging on all its own branded products by 2020.
