Huawei, Lenovo, OPPO, TCL involved in FB leakage case, Huawei responded

Cooperation with Huawei and other Chinese communications equipment manufacturers has caused social networking company Facebook to face political pressure.

On June 5th, American social giant Facebook confirmed that among the vendors that have data sharing partnerships with them, there are four Chinese companies: Huawei, Lenovo, OPPO and TCL. The New York Times reported on June 5 that the cooperation agreement with the four Chinese companies is still valid, but the Facebook leadership said in an interview that it will terminate the agreement with Huawei.

In response, the Financial Times reported on June 6 that Facebook faced political pressure in explaining how to protect user privacy.

"The cooperation between Facebook and Huawei, Lenovo, OPPO and TCL has been under control from the very beginning. We also recognize the Facebook experience created by these companies. Earlier, the New York Times reported that Facebook shared its in-depth user data with at least 60 manufacturers of communication devices, including Apple, Amazon, Blackberry and Samsung, and other Chinese companies such as Huawei.

In response to the New York Times allegations, Facebook issued a statement on June 3 stating that customizing Facebook applications on different mobile devices and opening APIs to hardware device companies can reshape Facebook's user experience and that company's data usage is strictly controlled. These companies also signed an agreement with Facebook to ensure that people’s Facebook information is not used for other purposes.
