On June 6, 2018, KraussMaffei demonstrated a rapidly changing multi-component mixing head in Munich. This mixing head is effective both in size and color.
The company said that its MK 10/15-UVP-2K+4 multicolor mixing head allows up to four colors to go directly into the mixing chamber and measure each other independently.
The colors are separated, but they can be switched over at any time in the mixing head. The company said that this means that users can eliminate the need to switch colors in actual production.
Sebastian Schmidhuber, head of the company's reaction process machinery development division, said that the hybrid heads are suitable for the relatively small number of polyurethane manufacturing machines and the challenges faced when using different colors.
The new mixing heads can change colors between injections without interrupting production. The company added that this increases flexibility and productivity in production.
In the mixing head, the polyol component is divided into two parts and introduced into the mixing chamber through two nozzles. Two different dyes can be introduced at each polyol nozzle. The company stated that all lines are metered at the same time, Therefore there will be no dye residue between the injections. The company added that the instrument can measure the dye at a relatively low pressure.
