European thermoplastic prices fluctuate

The prices of various standard thermoplastics in Europe have changed in May. According to the settlement of the raw material contract prices, prices have moderately fluctuating. Under the background of the overall rise in crude oil prices, the price of naphtha has soared, leading to an increase in the contract prices of ethylene and propylene in May. .

For polyolefins, the price changes of L/LDPE, HDPE and PP are very different. Although the contract price of ethylene rose by 20 Euros/ton, the price of L/LDPE has declined. Compared with the closing price in April, L The price of /LDPE is between 5-10 EUR/ton. This is mainly due to the persistent oversupply and sluggish demand.

The supply of HDPE was tighter, still lower than the increase in raw material costs. The price of polypropylene rose by 15 euros/ton, which was lower than the 25 euro/ton that the propylene contract price rose.

In May of this year, polystyrene prices fell again. General PS product prices dropped by about €30/t while the reference price for styrene monomer fell by €40/t, which means that producers have slightly increased their profit margins.

Due to production interruptions and strong seasonal demand from major PTA producers, bottle-grade PET prices have again seen blowout rises in May.
