The FUSB303 USB-C port controller is based on a state machine for easy integration with minimal processor interaction. The FUSB303 supports all source (SRC), sink (SNK) and dual role port (DRP) modes with or without accessory support. The FUSB303 has configurable I2C address access capabilities to support multiple ports per system, or to operate automatically only through pin configuration.
Type-C systems need to detect devices when connected. Given the versatility of the Type-C connector, once connected to another device, the system will determine the direction and mode of the connection. The ON Semiconductor FUSB303 can perform this automatically Detect and determine direction. Once the device mode is selected, the FUSB303 will remain in this state and compliance will be achieved without additional processor interaction.
The FUSB303 also implements the Try.SRC and Try.SNK preferred character functions, which are new in the 1.3 specification. It also supports unique detection algorithms to ensure stable connections and to avoid false conditions, such as connecting to an overhead cable. Also, The FUSB303 has a high voltage tolerance to prevent accidental short circuit due to contamination in the connector.
The FUSB303 successfully combines high performance with low power consumption, in line with ON Semiconductor's mission of providing energy-efficient solutions. This new device focuses on applications ranging from smart phones, tablets, laptops, to wearable devices and industrial objects. Networking (IoT) Use Cases. Its ultra-small size and thin profile makes it ideal for mobile and ultra-portable applications.
