Global industrial giant Siemens and Swedish battery technology developer Northvolt AB announced the establishment of a partnership to develop the best technology to produce high-quality green lithium-ion batteries. Siemens will support a partnership with an investment of 10 million euros, which also includes Lithium-ion battery supply.
Siemens will provide Northvolt with a digital enterprise product portfolio that will enable the entire value chain to be digitized - from battery pack design to production and services, and to a 10 million euro equity stake (photo courtesy of Northvolt). In order to mitigate the impact of climate change, Europe is accelerating the transition to renewable energy. The increase in electrification and battery use is one of the cornerstones of this transformation, enabling a large-scale transformation into sustainable transport, and will Integration into the energy structure. Due to the limited capacity of current related plans, Europe will face severe battery shortages in the coming years.
We are very pleased to support Northvolt's construction of the future battery factory. With our digital enterprise product portfolio, Jan Mrosik, CEO of Siemens Digital Factory Division, stated: 'We are committed to achieving competitive battery production in Europe, giving full play to software and automation. The advantages: higher flexibility, efficiency and quality, shortening time to market. '
Technical cooperation relationships are organized around two major areas of cooperation:
1. Using Siemens' digital enterprise product portfolio, covering everything from manufacturing planning and design software to automation (including industrial communication networks and cloud solutions), will enable Northwater to optimize its battery production and increase its competitive advantage.
2. Supply of lithium-ion batteries. Siemens intends to purchase batteries from Northvolt after large-scale production facilities are put into operation. They are also exploring potential areas for joint development plans.
Northvolt is promoting battery production to create an ultra-low carbon dioxide (CO) 2) The footprint of the battery factory. Our digital enterprise product portfolio will support Northvolt's construction of the most advanced battery factory. Ulf Troedsson, President and CEO of Siemens Nordics, said that we are very pleased to be a partner to this project.
Siemens stated that the Northvolt project will be regarded as a 'reference project' for future battery production. The project will rely on the integration and digitization of the entire value chain: from battery pack design to production planning, engineering and production services.
After the completion of the project in 2020, Siemens intends to purchase batteries from the factory, making Northvolt the preferred supplier. Siemens will support the partnership through a 10 million euro investment.
