ARM Announces Next-Generation Chip Architecture | Performance Meets Desktop Processors

Earlier today, ARM introduced a new chip architecture, including the Cortex A76 CPU and Mali G76 GPU. The A76 CPU performance has reached the notebook level, equivalent to i5-7300.

According to the introduction, the A76 is based on the TSMC 7nm process, which is 35% faster than the current Android high-end chip, and the energy efficiency is improved by 40%. The previous machine learning capability has been improved by 4 times. The A76 also supports DynamIQ topology features. Official Recommendation 1+7 Big.little size nuclear design such as /2+6.

Like the G72/G52, the Mali-G76 is based on the same Bifrost architecture. By doubling the number of execution pipelines per core engine, and with the support of the 7nm process, its performance increases by 1.5x.

The G76 is said to provide approximately twice as much FP32 and FMA throughput but only 28% increase in area. This means that the performance of the G76 graphics core is approximately twice that of the current G72. Chip designers do not need to stack as before. You can achieve the required level of performance.

The Mali-V76, which is built specifically for high-resolution displays - supports 8k60 decoding and 8k30 encoding, as well as multiple 4K and 1080p streaming video walls, and performs almost twice as fast as the Mali-V61.
