New York City considers plastic straws

If the bill is passed, plastic straws and whisks will be disabled at restaurants, bars and cafes in New York City. People with disabilities and some patients may not be restricted by the ban. Espinal suggested replacing straws with biodegradable materials such as paper, corn, bamboo, or reusable metal materials instead of plastic. Espinal said that the United States discards about 500 million plastic straws each day and dumps as much as 1200 tons of plastics into the ocean each year. 'Plastic straws are not necessities but luxury goods. Our luxury goods are destroying the environment.'
