In 2017 in Swedish families, the demand for wood pellets from thermal power plants and industry increased by nearly 2% over the previous year. A total of 1.8 million tons of pellets were used, equivalent to approximately 8.5 TWh of energy. This is an increase over the past three years. However, it is still 400,000 tons less than the 2.2 million tons maximum consumption level in 2011.
The domestic particle production in Sweden increased for the fifth consecutive year and is now 1.74 million tons, which is almost close to the record of 1.8 million tons in 2010. Overall, the use of particles in Sweden increased by nearly 2% or more than 30,000 tons in 2017 compared to 2016.
