Shanghai Presents the Fourth, Fifth Road Test License for Smartnet China to BMW China

On May 14th, Shanghai presented the fourth and fifth road test licenses of the smart gridlink car to BMW China. Since then, Shanghai has also become the first city in China to issue a smart internet road test license for foreign-invested automobile companies.

It is understood that BMW (China) Service Co., Ltd. applied for the smart network of automotive road test model for the BMW 7 Series.

The Shanghai Welfare Commission’s official WeChat introduction stated that the BMW 7 Series is a high-end luxury model. It has perfect technical solutions in terms of autopilot system perception, decision-making, control, and chest safety mechanisms. It has reached a higher level of auto-piloting and has been highly competitive in the National Intelligent Network. In the closed test zone of the Automotive (Shanghai) Pilot Demonstration Zone, a one-month inspection and experiment of smart gridlink car was conducted. The overall test pass rate was over 99%.

According to a press release issued by BMW, BMW has more than 60 experts in related fields in the autonomous driving research and development team located in Shanghai. The future R&D team will collect actual road test data based on actual traffic system feedback to simulate R&D. Post-processing and machine learning, and drive the road test for Level 4 fully automated driving.

At present, BMW has completed nearly 30,000 kilometers of road tests and 200,000 kilometers of computer simulation tests in China.

In 2016, BMW China demonstrated a third level of highly automated driving on designated highways in Chengdu; in 2017, BMW China demonstrated the fourth level of fully automated driving in Hangzhou. At the World Mobile Communications Conference in 2018, the BMW Group Debuted at the fifth level of autonomous vehicles. In April 2018, BMW Group officially opened its autonomous driving research and development center in Munich, Germany.

The experimental site is located in Boyuan Road and North Ande Road in Jiading District of Shanghai. The total length is about 5.6 kilometers. It is understood that since the first batch of three test licenses were formally issued on March 1, SAIC and Weilai have carried out respectively. 40-day test, accumulated test mileage of 6040 kilometers, accumulated test time of about 263 hours, process safety controllable, overall good condition.
