Acceleration of energy production in April 2018

In April, the production of raw coal, natural gas and electricity in the above-scale industries accelerated, crude oil production remained stable, and crude oil processing volume grew rapidly.

I. Accelerated production of raw coal, significant decline in coal imports, and price drop

In April, raw coal production increased by 4.1% year-on-year, which was 2.8 percentage points higher than the previous month. From January to April, raw coal production was 1.10 billion tons, an increase of 3.8% year-on-year.

The proportion of production in the main coal producing areas was further increased. From January to April, raw coal output in three regions of Shanxi, Shaanxi, and Inner Mongolia was 740 million tons, accounting for 67.5% of the country's total production, which was 1.0 percentage point higher than the same period of last year.

Coal imports fell sharply. In April, imported coal reached 22.28 million tons, down 10.1% year-on-year. From January to April, coal imports reached 97.68 million tons, an increase of 9.3% year-on-year.

The price of coal has declined. As of the end of April, the closing price of 5500 kcal coal in Qinhuangdao was 587 yuan per ton, which was a decrease of 20 yuan from the end of March; 5000 kcal per ton of 529 yuan, a decrease of 35 yuan; 4500 kcal per ton of 457 yuan , dropped 34 yuan.

Second, crude oil production is generally stable, and imports are growing rapidly

In April, crude oil production was 15.51 million tons, which was a year-on-year decrease of 2.3%, and the decrease was 0.1% more than last month. The average daily output was 517,000 tons, which was 0.2 million tons more than the previous month.

From January to April, crude oil production was 62.25 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 2.1%, a decrease of 0.1% from January to March.

In April, crude oil imports increased significantly, with imports of 39.46 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 14.7%, an acceleration of 14.1 percentage points from the previous month, and an average daily import of 1.315 million tons, a record high. From January to April, 150 million tons of crude oil were imported. , an increase of 8.9% from the previous year.

Affected by geopolitical factors, crude oil prices continued to rise, and Brent crude spot FOB prices hit the highest level since 2015. As of April 30, the price was US$75.92/barrel, up US$6.90/barrel from the end of March. Pulled, the domestic retail price of refined oil has also been significantly increased.

Third, the increase in crude oil processing speed up

Due to multiple shutdowns of large-scale petrochemical enterprises over the same period of last year, and multiple factors such as the import quotas for crude oil and refined oil export quotas, this year, crude oil processing volume increased rapidly. In April, crude oil processing volume reached 49.85 million tons, an increase of 11.5% over the same period of last year. , Accelerated by 3.2 percentage points over the previous month; average daily processing was 1.635 million tons, which was a decrease of 0.9 million tons from the previous month.

From January to April, the crude oil processing volume was 19.12 million tons, an increase of 9.1% year-on-year, and the growth rate was 1.6 percentage points higher than that in the first three months. Among the major refined oil products, the output of gasoline, kerosene, and diesel increased by 7.2%, 12.8%, and 2.2, respectively. %, growth rate accelerated by 1.4, 1.9 and 0.2 percentage points respectively.

Fourth, natural gas production grows rapidly, and imports maintain rapid growth

In April, natural gas production remained high, with a production of 12.89 billion cubic meters, an increase of 6.3% year-on-year, an acceleration of 5.9 percentage points from the previous month, and an average daily production of 430 million cubic meters, a decrease of 0.1 billion cubic meters from the previous month.

From January to April, natural gas production was 52.63 billion cubic meters, which was a year-on-year increase of 4.0%, and the growth rate was 0.7 percentage points higher than that in the first three months.

Natural gas imports maintained a rapid growth of over 30% for 7 consecutive months. In April, imports of natural gas reached 6.82 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 34.2%, and the growth rate fell by 5 percentage points from the previous month. From January to April, 27.42 million tons of natural gas were imported, which is the same Growth of 36.4%.

V. Significant increase in electricity production

In April, affected by the increase in electricity demand, electricity production accelerated markedly. The power generation amounted to 510.78 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of 6.9%, and the growth rate was 4.8 percentage points higher than that of the previous month. From January to April, electricity generation increased by 7.7% year-on-year. The rate of decline was 0.3% from January to March.

In terms of subcategories, the growth rate of thermal power was accelerating and the decline in hydropower was narrowed. In April, thermal power increased by 7.3%, and the growth rate was 5.9 percentage points higher than that in the previous month. Hydropower decreased by 2.6%, and the decrease narrowed by 2.7 percentage points; nuclear power increased by 6.5%. 4.8 percentage points; wind power, solar power generation maintained double-digit growth, which increased by 22.6% and 26.4%, respectively.

From a structural point of view, the proportion of thermal power, hydropower, and nuclear power, wind power, solar power and other new energy power generation rose. From January to April, the proportion of thermal power and hydropower decreased by 0.5% and 0.8% respectively over the same period of last year, and the proportion of new energy power generation increased by 1.3 percentage point.

Notes

1. Explanation of indicators

Raw coal: Refers to raw coal produced in coal mines that has passed inspection and acceptance of quality standards. That is: Raw coal with the specified particle size of vermiculite (including pyrite, etc.) and absolute dry ash below 40% is selected from the raw coal. Absolute dry ash Although more than 40%, but approved by the relevant authorities for the exploitation of low quality coal with consumer demand, should also be included in the raw coal production. Raw coal is divided into anthracite, bituminous coal, brown coal, bituminous coal is divided into coking bituminous coal and general bituminous coal Raw coal does not include stone coal, peat (peat), and coal gangue produced with the raw coal production process.

Average daily product output: Calculated by dividing the total output of industrial enterprises above the designated size announced in the current month by the calendar days of the month.

As the scope of industrial enterprises above designated size changes every year, in order to ensure that this year's data is comparable to the previous year, the same period of time used for calculating the year-on-year growth rate of various indicators of product output is consistent with the scope of enterprise statistics for the current period, and it was announced in the previous year. There is a difference in the data size.

2. Scope of statistics

The statistical data of the production statistics in the report are all industrial enterprises above designated size, and their statistical scope is industrial enterprises with an annual main business income of over 20 million yuan.

3. Survey method

The import data comes from the General Administration of Customs; the coal price data comes from the Chinese coal market network; the crude oil price data comes from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA).

4. Natural gas unit conversion relationship: 1 ton is approximately equal to 1380 cubic meters.
