MediaTek Helio P60 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 Performance PK

During the MWC this year, MediaTek released a new generation of P Series processor Helio P60, with a good performance and 12nm process, has become a new choice for mid-range and mid-high-end mobile phones.

In the past few months, new products equipped with MediaTek Helio P60 processors have also been listed one after another. So, this new high-end mobile chip market, with the Xiaolong 660, is it better or worse?

Today, let us explore the measured data!

Running test

First, let's first look at the detailed parameters of the two processors:

Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 uses its own Kryo260 eight core, GPU Andreno512, support Cat12/13 LTE network, support for LPDDR4X memory and UFS2.0 flash memory, fast charge up to support QC4, and uses Samsung's 14nmFinFET process.

The MediaTek Helio P60 uses the latest 12nm process from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. This process was previously adapted from the widely used TSMC 16nm with higher transistor integration, better performance, and lower power consumption.

On the CPU, MediaTek Helio P60 uses a quad-core A73+ quad-core A53 eight-core design, an ARM Mali G72 MP3 GPU, support for Cat 7 LTE network, support for LPDDR4X memory and UFS2.0 flash memory.

In order to test the actual performance of MediaTek Helio P60 and Snapdragon 660 processors on mid- to high-end mobile phones, we chose the OPPO R15 and R15 Dream Edition which are currently sold at the price of RMB 2500-3500, and the price range of 1500-2500 yuan. The segment's star products OPPO A3 and Xiaomi 6X. And carried four security tests for the four mobile phones: Bunny, Geekbench, GFXbench.

Security Bunny can perform comprehensive testing on the CPU performance, GPU performance, memory and UX performance of mobile phones. The following figure shows the actual performance of the four products in the security Bunny test:

In the security Bunny Run points test, the total score of the four mobile phones exceeded 130,000 points. Among them, the Xiaomi 6X equipped with Xiaolong 660 scored 13.2W.

In the sub-scores, the OPPO R15 and A3 equipped with the Helio P60 had more advantages in CPU scores, and the GPU performance did not open up significantly. Above the UX (user experience) performance, the two Xiaolong 660 processors performed better. .

In the storage test, the OPPO R15 and OPPO A3 equipped with the Helio P60 outperformed the R15 Dream Edition and Xiaomi 6X equipped with the Snapdragon 660, respectively. The performance of the two processors was not significantly different.

GeekBench can test the single-core and multi-core CPU performance of mobile phones. The measured results of the four products are shown in the figure:

In Geekbench's single-core test, the Xiaomi 6X equipped with Xiaolong 660 performed brilliantly. However, the Oppo R15 Dream Edition of another Xiaolong 660 processor did not open much gap with the other two products.

In the multi-core test, OPPO R15 and A3 based on Helio P60 have obvious advantages. Overall, in the CPU testing part, Geekbench's test results are basically the same with the security Bunny test results - Helio P60 has an advantage in CPU .

Overall, the performance of the Helio P60 is very satisfactory. Its overall quality is already comparable to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660. As a 'new star' in the mid- to high-end mobile chip market, MediaTek Helio P60 already has a mid- to high-end mobile chip market, and Long 660 equal power of autumn.

Game testing

After reading the above running test, I believe that many people are very curious about the actual gaming experience of a mobile phone equipped with two processors. Next, we have come to pass the "Glory of the King" and "Sudden Survival: Stimulating the Battlefield" Look at their actual performance!

In order to more intuitively demonstrate the performance of the processor in real games, we chose Gamebench, the game testing software, as the test tool for this test. Through GameBench, we can clearly see the real-time fluctuations in the frame rate of the game, CPU utilization , memory usage and other data.

The first is “The Glory of the King.” Here are the real-time performances of the four mobile phones running King’s Glory:

↑↑↑OPPO A3

↑↑↑ millet 6X

In general, the higher the frame rate (FPS) in the game, the more stable it is and the better the game experience. The stability of the frame rate can be seen directly by the above curve: The smaller the curve fluctuation, the more stable the frame rate. .

From this point of view, the performance of the OPPO R15 and R15 dream mirrors was basically the same, and the curve fluctuations of the OPPO A3 equipped with MediaTek P60 were smaller than the Xiaomi 6X equipped with the Xiaolong 660. The millet 6X appeared larger fluctuations in the middle and later periods.

However, above the average frame rate, Xiaomi 6X is even better than the OPPO A3, and the average frame rate of DreamVision OPPO R15 and R15 is as high as 60FPS.

We all know that the King's glory can achieve a maximum frame rate of 60 FPS after the high frame rate is turned on. In other words, the three mobile phones R15, R15 Dream Edition and Xiaomi 6X even operate at full frame rate. The frame rate of the OPPO A3 is For 57 frames, slightly behind.

From the actual gaming experience, the fluency of the four mobile phones when running the “Glory to the King” was very satisfactory. There was no problem with Caton in the entire game. If you don’t look at the data, the user does not feel the basics. The nuances of different processors.

Through the actual test of "The Glory of the King", we can see that the Helio P60 and Snapdragon 660 can actually run "The Glory of the King" perfectly in the high frame rate mode.

The impact of the game experience may be more of an optimization of the game: how to make the game run smoothly at a higher frame rate, give full play to the processor performance, this is crucial for the game experience.

Afterwards, we conducted the "Jade for survival: Stimulus battlefield" test on the four mobile phones. Compared with the glory of the king, the Jedi survival: Stimulation battlefield is more demanding on the hardware than chicken games.

In order to guarantee the gaming experience, whether it is MediaTek Helio P60 or Snapdragon 660, the highest "stimulus battlefield" can only open high-definition picture quality and high frame rate, the highest frame rate can reach 30FPS.

In contrast to the “Glory to the King” test, the frame rate curves of the four mobile phones fluctuate during the “Exciting Battlefield” test. Especially for the Xiaomi 6X, the entire curve is very cluttered. Besides the OPPO A3 and R15, there are some big ones. Beyond fluctuations, the curve is very smooth. In addition to the large fluctuations in the OPPO R15 Dream Mirror Edition, many subtle fluctuations can still be seen on the curve.

This is also evident in the measured frame rate. Only the millet 6X, which fluctuates greatly, has not yet reached the full frame rate. The other three stations have reached the maximum of 30 FPS.

Judging from the actual gaming experience, using four 'chicken's' under high-definition quality, the overall experience of the two Helio P60 devices OPPO R15 and OPPO A3 is very smooth.

The performance of the two products equipped with Xiaolong 660 is not the same, especially millet 6X. When dropping the screen, the feeling of dropped frames is very obvious. It may still need to reduce the picture quality to get a better experience. For chickens, Millet 6X still needs a little more work on optimization.

Temperature test

In addition, the temperature performance of the mobile phone is also the focus of our attention.

Temperature not only affects the sense of touch when using the mobile phone. Take the above game scenario as an example. After the temperature of the mobile phone increases during the game, the system will automatically adjust the frequency of the CPU and GPU to ensure that the temperature of the mobile phone is maintained within a reasonable range. After the down-clock performance users can clearly feel: such as unstable frame rate, game card, etc.

Then, after two rounds of game (about one hour), how are the temperature performances of the four mobile phones?

The results of the test were very interesting: Among them, OPPO R15 and Xiaomi 6X performed best at 40.2°C, followed by OPPO R15, with a temperature of 40.6°C, and the third OPPO A3 with a temperature of 41°C.

So, why are the best performances of the OPPO R15 and Xiaomi 6X? First of all, let's talk about the OPPO R15, because of the adoption of TSMC's latest 12nm process, compared with the previous TSMC 16nm FinFET, the progress of the process for the processor The power required to bring a smaller transistor gate is even less, more efficient, and therefore less heat is generated.

The reason why Xiaomi 6X can achieve the performance of OPPO R15 on heating is due in large part to its use of a metal body material. Compared with the glass body of three other mobile phones, the thermal conductivity of metal material makes it Temperature control has more advantages.

On the other hand, from the same door, the lower positioning OPPO A3 is obviously inferior to the flagship series in heat dissipation design, and thus performs the worst.

From this point of view, the most valuable set of comparisons in terms of heat dissipation are OPPO R15 and OPPO R15. The final result is also obvious.
