The ocean is steadily filled with plastic, and finding a solution to the problem is critical. One way to do this is to move away from plastics to more environmentally sustainable materials. This is what Indonesian company Evoware wants to do. Indonesia is the world’s Two major plastic dumpers. They dump 90% of plastic waste into the ocean, and another 70% of waste comes from food and beverage packaging.
Indonesia is also the largest producer of seaweed. Seaweed farming is a large industry in the country but its size does not translate into benefits for farmers. Many producers of this major export live in poverty. Evoware hopes their plan will help In order to solve these two problems, they hope to cooperate with the seaweed farmers in the country to create biodegradable packaging from their agricultural products. This will not only reduce plastic waste in the country, but also greatly promote the livelihoods of poor farmers in Indonesia.
The purpose of Evoware is not to replace all plastic uses with seaweed. Obviously, it is not suitable for more powerful packaging of goods. Instead, they focus on smaller products, such as food bags and packaging, and other small products such as soap packaging. For these purposes, they created two seaweed-based materials. One is biodegradable and designed for non-food products. Unlike plastics, consumers don't need to worry about where they will end after use.
The other is very interesting. It is designed for food packaging. It is soluble in warm water and can be completely consumed even in the undissolved state. Instead of pouring the contents of the seasoning bag into the noodles, you can simply throw everything. Go in. You can put your teabags in because they will break down anyway.
Evoware says that seaweed-based bioplastics taste bad. In fact, it is almost odorless and odorless. Obviously it also contains a lot of fiber, vitamins and minerals, suitable for human consumption.
