U.S. smart speaker usage rate, Amazon Echo steady market leader

Amazon Echo continues to dominate the US smart speaker market, but Echo’s lead has declined as Google Home and other competitors struggled to catch up.

According to research firm Emarketer's pre-regulation, 40.7 million people in the United States will use Amazon Echo once a month at least once, accounting for 66.6% of the total. However, by 2020, the market share of Echo is expected to drop to 60.8%.

At the same time, Google Home's market share forecast rose from 29.5% to 32.9%, which is still far behind Amazon Echo. Other branded devices are estimated to increase from 8.3% to 14%.

Emarketer also pointed out that the number of people using smart speakers in the United States will exceed the wearable device for the first time this year, reaching 61.10 million, growing by nearly 40% compared to 2017, and well above the 45.4 million predicted by Emarketer in April last year. 5.10 million people use wearable devices, growing by nearly 12% over 2017.

According to Emarketer, smart speakers are most often used to listen to music, and 74% of respondents responded, followed by answers to questions such as weather, time, etc.
